Tidy Home, Tidy Mind Posted On 25 January 2022

What you need to keep your Home Spotless

There’s something wonderful about coming home to a clean and tidy house. It’s why many of us frantically clean our homes before going on holiday – to allow us to return to peaceful havens. Taking pride in the appearance of your home also boosts your mood. We are often more productive when our homes are clean and tidy, the clear rooms allowing our minds to feel uncluttered and focused. By keeping on top of your cleaning, you can prevent it from feeling a sisyphean task. Dedicating 20 minutes a day to keeping on top of day-to-day tasks, such as emptying the dishwasher and hoovering allows you to feel in control. So, where should you start and what products do you need?

Vacuum cleaner. A vacuum cleaner is a definite must-have, even if you don’t have carpeted floors. If you have pets, your need to vacuum appears to double overnight! Opting for a cordless vacuum will encourage you to regularly blitz your home.

Microfibre cloths. Microfibre cloths are gentle enough to clean all surfaces without leaving behind scratches, including stainless steel and glass. They make great dish cloths and can be washed in the washing machine when needed.

Squeegee. Keep a squeegee in your shower to cut down on soap scum build up the tile, which will save you lots of time later on.

Glass cleaner. Glass cleaner is specially formulated for glass surfaces like windows and tables so that you can get an effective clean without leaving behind streaks or smears.

Wood cleaner. Similar to glass cleaner, wood cleaner is a one-surface-specific cleaner that, in this case, is optimised for use on wood.

If you’re looking to save a few pennies and be gentler on the environment, you can easily use household supplies as cleaning products. Mixing baking soda with water creates an all-purpose cleaner. Your washing-up liquid can be diluted and used to clean floors, wipe down surfaces and even clean glass.  It is worth remembering that homemade products might not work quite as well as the non-natural stuff when it comes to thoroughly killing viruses and bacteria.
